    Phil O'Banion: 'Rooted' in Christ

Colossians 2: 6–7 'Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.'

This passage from Colossians provides a clear directive for Christian living. When we receive Christ Jesus as Lord, our journey of faith begins with being rooted and built up in Him.

The imagery of being "rooted" suggests a deep, stable foundation. Just as a tree needs strong roots to weather storms and draw nourishment, we need to be deeply rooted in Christ to grow spiritually and remain steadfast in our faith.

Being "established in the faith" means having a firm foundation built on the teachings of Christ and the apostles. This establishment comes through consistent study, prayer, and fellowship with other believers.

The phrase "abounding in thanksgiving" reminds us that gratitude should characterize our walk with Christ. When we truly understand what He has done for us, thankfulness naturally flows from our hearts.

Walking in Christ involves more than just believing; it requires daily surrender and obedience to His will. It means allowing His character to be formed in us and His love to flow through us to others.
